The Terrible Time Machine (Monsterbus p.78)

No matter the technology, the bigger problem is our desire to fight and steal. This is why I don't spend my time on technology like so many other people on the autism spectrum, And hence why I am financially poor despite excellent school grades and an interest in programming. Because some things are more important. Sorry to talk about my pet hobby again. But I am working on my latest AnswersAnswers.com  rewrite, and such things weigh heavily on my mind. God, I love Kirby's work.

I Fly to the Stars! (Monsterbus p.74)

Time dilation. The wonders of the universe. How this affects our personal relationships. A metaphor for anyone who discovers something that others find hard to accept. Like, say, leaving the religion your family love. This is mind expanding, serious, powerful Kirby stuff. This is why I started reading comics as a child, to learn about the real world in the most amazing way possible. This is why I still read Kirby today.

Test Pilot (Monsterbus p.65)

Classic Kirby! The wonders of the universe! So much to wonder and marvel at, and classic Kirby imagery. For example, the first page perspective shot and the meteor shots will be seen again in the Fantastic Four several times. This story isn't about a final panel twist, this is about the honest wonder and glory of the real world! I love it. But this blog is about Kirby the prophet, and that is where it becomes sad. The story is written for publication in 1959, and set in 2089, 130 years later. That was plenty of time to develop near light speed travel, if we had fixed our economy, focusing on growth rather than war. But we chose not to. it is now 2018. We are almost halfway: 60 years on. And we effectively gave up on space travel long ago, so we probably won't make it. it is 2018. The last people who walked on the moon are now old men, dying off one by one.  We could have reached the stars. But we chose greed (and hence poverty) instead.

Alien On Earth (Monsterbus p.59)

"We scared the alien off!" This reminded me of something that just happened with me. I feed wild birds, and leave the peanuts uncovered so the mice can have some as well.  The mice place items on the peanuts to hide them from other animals. They spend so long working on this that I felt bad about messing up their work every morning, so now I leave those peanuts alone and feed the birds from somewhere else. My brother pointed out that, from the mouse point of view, they have won! The fact that I no longer disturb their peanuts proves that they have hidden the peanuts from me and I can no longer find them! This is typical behaviour when dealing with more advanced beings. In the Kirby story, humans think the alien must be an enemy., We think we scared him off. But really we were too stupid to see that advanced beings don't steal our peanuts. If they wanted to kill us we would already be dead! If they come to spend time with us it is must be for peaceful reasons. Our...

The Creatures in the Volcano (Monsterbus p.54)

This is a beautiful and moving story when taken seriously. The start is exhilarating, the end is thought provoking. It's about an existential threat that nobody will believe because it seems so crazy. I think this is another prophecy come true. It applies to the central theme of both the Eternals and of the monster comics: higher beings deciding our future.  For example, I recently blogged about how the human race has until the year 2026 to find a way to survive the coming of the gods. Like aliens in volcanoes, it sounds crazy. But if it is true, what can we do? In my view we can survive the gods by becoming much stronger. And we can only do that by creating a fairer society (so every human's potential can be used). See my other site, answersanswers.com , for details. But I can't say "make a fairer society because the gdsa re coming". Like the story of aliens in volcanoes, nobody would believe me. So like the man in the story, I have to appeal to the profit m...
